NetCloak is the Eddy Award-winning Web server add-on tool that allows you to create dynamic Web pages with incredible ease. Page counters, time and date stamps, browser recognition, enhanced security, and macros are just some of the powerful features provided by NetCloak to make your Web site not only more interesting, secure, and dynamic, but also easier to maintain.
NetCloak is a plug-in (or CGI application) which processes your HTML pages as they are served, providing dozens of HTML extension commands for you to use on your Web site. Simple "INSERT" commands will be replaced by dynamic information. For example, the command "<INSERT_TIME>" will be replaced by the current time when the page is served.
NetCloak also has more advanced commands which will hide or show parts of the page based on day, browser type, username and other information. For example, content following the command "<SHOW_DAY TUESDAY>" will only be displayed on Tuesday. With NetCloak commands in your pages you can create "smart" error pages which automatically redirect clients to the correct page, popup navigation menus, random graphic banners with clickthru counters and dozens more features for your Web site.
What Is Included?
The software in this folder is not a demo– your AppleShare IP server includes a free copy of NetCloak!
In this folder you will find:
• This READ ME file, with information about NetCloak.
• The NetCloak Introduction folder, containing files which will show you what NetCloak does and how to install it on your AppleShare IP server. Follow the instructions below to set up the Introduction.
• The NetCloak.acgi application and the NetCloak Plug-In. These are the NetCloak software. Follow the instructions in the NetCloak Introduction to install NetCloak.
• The TagBuilder™ folder, containing TagBuilder, a utility which makes it easier to use NetCloak commands in your Web pages.
• A NetCloak Key file, which you can use to validate free upgrade versions of NetCloak to which you are entitled. See the Introduction for more information about upgrades and how to obtain them.
Getting Started
To get started, install the NetCloak Introduction as described below. The Introduction includes a link to sample pages which demonstrate some of the features of NetCloak and the on-line User's Guide (in HTML format).
The instructions below assume that your AppleShare IP server is already configured for Web service. If it is not, consult your AppleShare IP Admin Guide for instructions.
To Install The NetCloak Introduction
1. Open the “NetCloak Introduction” folder, and copy the entire contents to the Web Folder. The Web Folder is normally located on the startup volume of the Macintosh with AppleShare IP.
2. Start up the AppleShare IP server, then double-click the NetCloak.acgi application to launch it.
Starting NetCloak by double-clicking on it is not required, as the Web server will automatically start it as needed. However, starting by hand is recommended to avoid possible start-up errors.
3. Once your server is ready, open your browser and load the following URL:
http://your.server.com/NetCloak.html
You'll need to substitute the address of your server for "your.server.com", of course.
The NetCloak Demo and Information page should appear, with some of the basics about NetCloak, examples of what you can do with it and links to more information.
